Who We Are
Tirmizi Design Studio is a full service, multi-disciplinary architecture and design firm based in New York City. A team of creative architects, interior designers, graphic designers and technologists led by Asifa Tirmizi, an architect, interior designer and artist. We are excited to provide our clients with a collaborative, hands on approach which ultimately results an extraordinary aesthetic. We aim to provide tailored, creative, and functional design solutions to meet and exceed the goals of every client. Our clientele is diverse and includes private residential owners, restaurateurs, hospitality groups, real estate developers, not-for-profit foundations, start ups and commercial corporations.
Leadership
Asifa has 20 years of experience as an architect and interior designer in New York City. She is founder and CEO of Tirmizi Design Studio, a multi-disciplinary practice, specializing in residential, commercial and mixed-us projects.
Asifa is a second-generation architect, growing up visiting constructions sites and working at her father’s office. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Industrial Design from the University of Alberta. Asifa earned a Master of Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design and later went back to school to receive a Master of Science in Real Estate Development from New York University. Prior to starting her own firm in 2006, Asifa began her career at the Guggenheim Museum designing exhibits for Giorgio Armani and Frank Gehry while teaching architecture and drawing classes at Pratt Institute. She then when on to work at smaller design firms, focusing on residential and retail projects including Anthropologie, Mavi Jeans and Urban Outfitters. Following this, Asifa wanted to gain experience in large scale projects, so she joined HLW, where she had the opportunity to design corporate offices for HBO, Google and Dechert Rhodes Law Firm. Shortly after leaving HLW, Asifa felt she needed to understand the internal workings of New York City’s planning rules and regulations, so she transitioned into a role at Department of City Planning, focusing on zoning regulations.
In 2006, Asifa launched her own firm, a full service design studio, offering a spectrum of services, including architecture, interior design and decoration. With a design forward approach, Asifa works on all project aspects from conception to completion including schematics, design development, and construction details. To take a step further, she is also involved with specifications for finishes, fixtures, and furniture, including decoration items. For commercial clients, Asifa also provides creative direction for branding and developing corporate identities.
Design Philosophy
Our design approach is centered around simple luxury provided through refined details and quality finishes. There is a wide range of possible design solutions for a given design problem, and we excel at developing simple solutions which are practical and beautiful. We strongly believe that thoughtful solutions, including straightforward and functional layouts, simple material palettes, and finely proportioned detailing are essential to successful design.
Expertise
Our experience includes a wide array of projects that vary greatly in type and scale ranging from residential (small apartment to townhouse) to commercial (doctor’s office to corporate headquarters). Each project presents its own unique challenges, and we enjoy addressing each challenge with a tailored rather than cookie-cutter approach. We strive to develop a long-term relationship with the client, beyond project occupancy, to ensure maximum client satisfaction.
